Course Content

This course teaches all components of the ARSM Piano Teaching Diploma Examination, including student tutorial recording and supporting commentary (1A. Music Teaching in Practice), essay writing (1B. Music Teaching in Context), and professional discussion (2. Reflective Practice and Professional Values). This course includes online group classes and individual in-person lessons, video catch-up and essay feedback, and mock exams. Nine months of recorded class review sessions are provided to allow participants to study the material before the actual exam. 1A. Music Teaching in Practice​ This section is divided into two units: students tutorial video planning and reviews,  supporting commentary. Unit 1 ✔️ Discussion on multiple teaching video examples ✔️ Analysing the teaching requirements for each stage, avoiding unwanted teaching techniques ✔️ Providing step-by-step personalized recording plans for each participant, including lesson items and repertoire selection used in the recordings, etc. Unit 2 ✔️ Deconstructing, analysing, and revising the content of the supporting commentary. 1B. Music Teaching in Context Unit 3 ✔️ Planning of key writing points for each topic's paragraph and analysing the meaning behind the texts ✔️ Mock questions and concerns from the examiner's perspective, ensuring students anticipate and prepare for potential questions in the Discussion session 2. Reflective Practice and Professional Values Unit 4 ✔️Course tutor will design personalized mock exams for each student, focusing on individual video content and essay ✔️Each student will participate in mock Q&A sessions with mock examiners, resulting in a deeper and more concrete understanding and experience of the exam process and content 🌟This course provides nine months of video review, allowing students to continue study and review before the exam. *Class notes will be provided.*

~ Dedicated to developing the teaching skills of piano teachers, with rich pedagogical insight and strong ability in analysing and resolving practical teaching challenges, and described by students as a “life and career mentor”. - Executive Director of Hong Kong Music for Youth - Studied performance and pedagogy with teachers Pai Suli and Li Ling, and later pursued further studies in the UK with former ABRSM senior diploma examiners David Cooper and John Foster. - Students who obtained the ABRSM Diploma of Performance (DipABRSM) have an average age of 15, with the youngest being eight and a half. The youngest students to obtain Grade 5 in Music Theory were five and a half. - Over twenty years’ experience teaching piano performance and teaching diplomas, with students from Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, the UK and various cities in mainland China. Many diploma graduates have achieved Distinction results. - Popular courses include: ABRSM Performance Diploma Preparation Course; ARSM and LRSM Piano Teaching Diploma Exam Preparation Course; Beginners and Intermediate Piano Teaching Courses; and Piano Teaching Enhancement Workshops: “Scales, Aural & Sight-reading”.

ARSM Piano Performance 

Exam Preparation Course​

Suitable for:

- Individuals who wish to obtain the piano performance diploma in a short period of time and on a limited budget

- Piano tutors who wish to prepare students for the ARSM diploma exam

 

This course guarantees that students will complete learning the entire set of exam pieces within six to nine months.

This course guarantees that students will complete learning the entire set of exam pieces within six to nine months.

This exam preparation course is designed for individuals aged 18 and above who wish to learn multiple exam pieces in a shorter and more effective manner, preparing for the ARSM Performance Diploma exams (RQF Level 4~ equivalent to the first year of a university bachelor's degree, EQF Level 5).

The course lasts six to nine months (depending on the difficulty of the selected pieces), with three one-hour sessions per month.

🌟Students who are ready for the exam within the course within the course length, will have the opportunity to record their exam using a grand piano (YAMAHA C3).
